Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
  • Help patients with mobility, transfers, and ambulation, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) accurately.
  • Assist nurses with medical procedures, treatments, and examinations as directed.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe patient environment, including changing bed linens.
  • Document patient observations, care provided, and any changes in condition promptly and accurately.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, promoting a positive and healing atmosphere.
  • Respond to patient call lights and requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with the nursing team and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.

Required Skills

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability, or Home and Community Care) or Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience as a Nursing Assistant or Assistant in Nursing (AIN) in an aged care or acute care setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist patients with personal care and mobility.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and recording vital signs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong observational and documentation skills.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Valid Working With Children Check (if applicable for the setting).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Further professional development courses in aged care, dementia care, or palliative care.
  • Ability to speak a second language relevant to the local community.
  • Experience in a rural or regional healthcare setting.
