Career.zycto is actively seeking a skilled and dedicated Bus Maintenance Mechanic to join our Fleet Support team in Sea Mills, Bristol. You will be responsible for executing a wide range of maintenance tasks, from routine inspections and preventative care to complex diagnostic procedures and urgent repairs, working across various makes and models of public transport vehicles. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine scheduled maintenance and preventative inspections on our bus fleet to ensure optimal performance and compliance with all safety standards.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using advanced diagnostic equipment and systematic troubleshooting techniques.
- Execute comprehensive repairs on engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension, and other critical components.
- Conduct pre-MOT inspections and prepare vehicles to meet rigorous regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance work, repairs, and parts used.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with the wider maintenance team, operations staff, and parts department.
- Participate in on-call rotations or respond to roadside breakdowns as required, ensuring minimal disruption to service.
- Continuously update knowledge of vehicle technologies and best practices through ongoing training.
Required Skills
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, PCV/HGV Repair, or a related field.
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Bus or HGV Mechanic.
- Strong diagnostic capabilities and problem-solving skills for complex mechanical and electrical issues.
- Proficiency in using a variety of diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety regulations pertaining to vehicle maintenance.
- Valid UK driving license (Category B minimum, Category D preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) or PSV (Public Service Vehicle) license.
- Experience with major bus manufacturers such as Volvo, Scania, Alexander Dennis, or Mercedes-Benz.
- Familiarity with hybrid or electric vehicle systems.
- IRTEC Licence or similar industry-recognized accreditations.
