As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs and protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the industrial estate's Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) in compliance with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues across all facilities and operations.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees and contractors, ensuring awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Prepare and present detailed safety reports, statistics, and performance indicators to management.
- Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and certifications related to health and safety are current and adhered to.
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Promote a proactive safety culture through communication, engagement, and incentive programs.
- Manage emergency response plans and coordinate emergency drills.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., OSH Act) and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Excellent risk assessment and hazard identification skills.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in Occupational Safety and Health (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH).
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with safety management software.
- Fluency in English and working knowledge of local Patois.
