Career.zycto is actively searching for a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join a prominent industrial estate located in the picturesque Dolphin Bay, Port Antonio. This professional role is pivotal in ensuring a safe, compliant, and productive working environment across various operations within the estate. As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs and protocols. You will be expected to conduct regular risk assessments, identify potential hazards, and devise effective mitigation strategies. This position requires a proactive individual with a deep understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to foster a strong safety culture among all employees and contractors. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the industrial estate's Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) in compliance with local regulations and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues across all facilities and operations.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees and contractors, ensuring awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Prepare and present detailed safety reports, statistics, and performance indicators to management.
  • Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and certifications related to health and safety are current and adhered to.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies during inspections and audits.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through communication, engagement, and incentive programs.
  • Manage emergency response plans and coordinate emergency drills.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., OSH Act) and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • Excellent risk assessment and hazard identification skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification in Occupational Safety and Health (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH).
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with safety management software.
  • Fluency in English and working knowledge of local Patois.
