Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking highly skilled, dedicated, and compassionate Paramedics to join our emergency response team in Kakamega, Kakamega County. This critical role involves providing immediate, high-quality pre-hospital medical care to patients experiencing medical emergencies, trauma, or critical illness. As a Paramedic, you will be the frontline responder, responsible for rapid patient assessment, stabilization, and safe transport to appropriate medical facilities. You will operate within a fast-paced environment, making critical decisions under pressure, and applying advanced life support techniques in accordance with established protocols and medical directives. Your day-to-day will involve responding to emergency calls, performing advanced medical procedures, administering medications, interpreting vital signs, and utilizing sophisticated medical equipment to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This position demands not only clinical excellence but also exceptional communication skills, empathy, and the ability to remain calm and focused during intense situations. You will work closely with other emergency services personnel, including EMTs, police, and fire departments, fostering a collaborative approach to emergency management. Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly and safely to emergency calls within Kakamega County.
  • Perform rapid and thorough patient assessments to determine the nature and extent of illness or injury.
  • Initiate and administer advanced life support (ALS) procedures, including IV therapy, medication administration, advanced airway management, and cardiac monitoring/defibrillation.
  • Provide basic life support (BLS) as needed, including CPR, wound care, and splinting.
  • Safely transport patients to appropriate medical facilities while continuously monitoring their condition.
  • Accurately document all patient care activities, observations, and treatments in accordance with medical and legal requirements.
  • Operate and maintain emergency vehicles and medical equipment, ensuring readiness for all calls.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, medical professionals, and other emergency services.
  • Adhere strictly to all clinical protocols, safety standards, and local regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing training, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Valid Paramedic certification/license in Kenya.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of verifiable experience as a Paramedic in an emergency setting.
  • Proficiency in advanced airway management, IV access, and medication administration.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in high-stress environments.
  • Valid Kenyan driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Emergency Medical Services or a related field.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Experience with electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) systems.
  • Prior experience working in rural or diverse community settings.
  • Fluency in Swahili and English.
