Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, and mobility.
- Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) accurately and report any changes to nursing staff.
- Help patients with personal hygiene, including oral care, skin care, and perineal care.
- Assist with patient transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, including changing bed linens and tidying patient rooms.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, fostering a comfortable and reassuring atmosphere.
- Assist with feeding patients and documenting fluid intake and output.
- Observe and report any changes in patients' physical, mental, or emotional condition to the supervising nurse.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare team members.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety policies, infection control protocols, and facility procedures.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Healthcare Attendant or in a similar caregiving role.
- Proven ability to provide compassionate and patient-centered care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively within a team.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
- Basic knowledge of infection control practices and patient safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate in Community Health, Home Care, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience working in a hospital or clinic setting.
- Proficiency in local languages spoken in Garissa (e.g., Somali, Swahili).
