Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Construction Materials Clerk to join our dynamic team in Anthony Village, Lagos. This full-time role is absolutely critical to the efficient operation of our construction projects, ensuring that all necessary materials are accurately tracked, stored, and readily available exactly when needed. As a Construction Materials Clerk, you will serve as the backbone of our supply chain on-site, directly impacting project timelines, budget adherence, and overall operational fluidity. You will be responsible for the meticulous management of all incoming and outgoing construction materials, maintaining precise inventory records, and coordinating seamlessly with various stakeholders, from external suppliers to internal site managers and project leads.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will be diverse and impactful, involving the accurate receipt of deliveries, thorough verification of quantities against purchase orders, rigorous inspection of materials for quality and any signs of damage, and the strategic organization of our storage facilities for optimal accessibility, efficiency, and safety. Beyond just tracking materials, you will play a proactive role in anticipating future material needs, flagging potential shortages or upcoming requirements well in advance, and actively assisting in the procurement process by providing accurate, real-time inventory data. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and verify all incoming construction materials against purchase orders and delivery notes, ensuring accuracy and quality.
- Organize and maintain the materials storage area, ensuring proper categorization, labeling, and safe stacking of materials.
- Issue materials to project teams and subcontractors as per requisitions, maintaining accurate records of all disbursements.
- Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile with system records, identifying and investigating discrepancies.
- Monitor material stock levels, anticipate upcoming needs, and communicate potential shortages or excesses to the procurement team.
- Coordinate with suppliers and logistics providers for timely delivery and collection of materials.
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date records of all material transactions, including receipts, issues, returns, and damages.
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and procedures in material handling and storage.
- Prepare periodic reports on material usage, stock levels, and other relevant metrics.
- Assist in the identification and disposal of obsolete or damaged materials.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, site supervisors, and procurement officers to optimize material flow.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Materials Clerk, Storekeeper, or similar role, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles and practices.
- Proficiency in using inventory management software or systems.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of construction materials and their applications.
- Physical ability to lift and move materials, and to stand for extended periods.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records.
Preferred Qualifications
- OND or HND in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Certification in inventory management or supply chain operations.
- Experience with ERP systems for inventory tracking.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to construction sites and material handling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for data management.
