Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage strategic procurement plans and policies in alignment with company goals.
- Oversee the entire purchasing cycle, from requisition and vendor selection to order placement, delivery, and invoice reconciliation.
- Lead complex contract negotiations with suppliers to achieve optimal pricing, terms, and service level agreements.
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers and vendors, continuously expanding our network while managing existing supplier relationships effectively.
- Monitor global and local market trends, supply chain risks, and regulatory compliance requirements to inform procurement strategies.
- Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock without excess, working closely with operations and finance teams.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments (e.g., Finance, Operations, Sales) to understand their procurement needs and ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services.
- Prepare and analyze comprehensive reports on procurement activities, spend analysis, supplier performance, and cost savings initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small purchasing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Ensure strict adherence to ethical purchasing practices, company policies, and relevant legal and industry standards.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of progressive experience in procurement or supply chain management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven expertise in Strategic Sourcing and Category Management.
- Exceptional Vendor Management and Supplier Relationship Management skills.
- Strong Contract Negotiation and Cost Analysis capabilities.
- Proficiency in Supply Chain Optimization and Inventory Management principles.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems and procurement software (e.g., SAP Ariba, Oracle, Sage).
- Advanced Data Analysis and Reporting skills using tools like Excel or business intelligence platforms.
- Demonstrated Leadership and Team Management abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management (e.g., CIPS, CSCP, CPSM).
- Experience with international procurement, logistics, and customs regulations.
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance relevant to the Kenyan market.
- Project management experience, particularly in implementing procurement process improvements.
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
