Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Full-Time Academic Advisor to join our vibrant team in Charlestown, Boston. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive guidance and support to a diverse student body, fostering an environment where learners can achieve their full potential. As an Academic Advisor, you will be the cornerstone of our students’ educational journey, offering expert advice on course selection, program requirements, and long-term academic planning.

Your day will be filled with impactful interactions, from one-on-one advising sessions to facilitating workshops designed to enhance student engagement and preparedness. You will interpret academic policies and procedures, ensuring students understand their options and responsibilities. A key aspect of this role is developing personalized academic and career development plans that align with students’ aspirations and capabilities, helping them make informed decisions about their future. You will also serve as a crucial liaison, connecting students with vital campus resources such as tutoring services, career services, financial aid, and mental health support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising to a diverse student population, guiding them through course selection, degree requirements, and academic policies.
  • Develop and monitor individualized academic and career development plans tailored to student goals and progress.
  • Interpret and explain institutional policies, procedures, and resources to students, parents, and faculty.
  • Refer students to appropriate support services including tutoring, career services, financial aid, and counseling.
  • Facilitate workshops and information sessions on topics such as academic planning, study skills, and career exploration.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and academic progress using designated advising systems.
  • Collaborate with faculty, department chairs, and other staff to support student success and retention.
  • Stay current with best practices in academic advising and institutional changes affecting students.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 30 months of experience in academic advising, student services, or a similar educational role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Proficiency in using student information systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to student success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with career counseling or development strategies.
  • Familiarity with various learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Knowledge of current trends and challenges in higher education.
