Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Agricultural Officer to join our dynamic team in Plaine Magnien, Grand Port District. This critical role will contribute to the optimization of our agricultural operations, primarily focusing on sugarcane cultivation and other potential diversification crops. The Agricultural Officer will be instrumental in implementing best practices, conducting field research, and ensuring the health and productivity of our crops. You will work closely with our farm management and operations teams, applying scientific principles to real-world challenges. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor crop health, growth, and development across designated fields.
- Conduct soil testing, analyze results, and recommend appropriate fertilization and soil improvement strategies.
- Implement integrated pest and disease management programs.
- Supervise planting, irrigation, harvesting, and other field operations.
- Collect and analyze agricultural data to identify trends, predict yields, and optimize resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with all agricultural regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Provide technical advice and training to field staff on modern farming techniques and best practices.
- Assist in the planning and execution of experimental trials for new crop varieties or cultivation methods.
- Prepare regular reports on crop status, operational performance, and agricultural forecasts.
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., processing, research & development) to achieve company objectives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in agricultural management or field operations, preferably with sugarcane.
- Strong knowledge of crop production cycles, soil science, plant pathology, and entomology.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
- Ability to work effectively in an outdoor, field-based environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and train a team.
- Valid Mauritian driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant agricultural discipline.
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies (e.g., GIS, remote sensing).
- Familiarity with Mauritian agricultural practices and regulations.
- Experience in crop diversification projects.
