Job Description

Agritek Holdings Ltd is seeking a dedicated and experienced Agricultural Officer to join our dynamic team in Terre Rouge. This pivotal role involves comprehensive inspection of agricultural sites and providing expert advisory services to our clients, ensuring adherence to best practices, regulatory standards, and optimal crop health. You will be instrumental in conducting on-site assessments, diagnosing plant and soil issues, recommending appropriate interventions, and delivering tailored advice on crop management, pest control, fertilization, and irrigation. Your expertise will directly impact the success and sustainability of agricultural operations across various scales, from small-holder farms to large commercial plantations. We are looking for an individual with a strong background in agronomy, excellent observational skills, and a passion for fostering agricultural growth and efficiency. This role demands a proactive approach, critical thinking, and the ability to communicate complex agricultural concepts clearly and effectively to a diverse audience. You will also be responsible for maintaining detailed records of inspections, preparing comprehensive reports, and staying abreast of the latest advancements in agricultural science and technology. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular on-site inspections of farms and agricultural land to assess crop health, soil conditions, and farm management practices.
  • Identify and diagnose plant diseases, pest infestations, nutrient deficiencies, and other agricultural challenges.
  • Provide expert, evidence-based advice and recommendations on crop rotation, planting techniques, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease management, and harvesting.
  • Ensure compliance with local agricultural regulations, environmental standards, and quality control protocols.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops for farmers on modern agricultural techniques and sustainable practices.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, advisory summaries, and progress updates for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with agricultural researchers and extension services to disseminate up-to-date information and innovative solutions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of agricultural development programs and initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented recommendations and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities, observations, and recommendations using designated software systems.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in agricultural inspection, farm management, or advisory services.
  • In-depth knowledge of crop science, soil science, plant pathology, entomology, and integrated pest management (IPM).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex agricultural issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining technical information clearly.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel extensively within the Pamplemousses District and surrounding areas.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant agricultural discipline.
  • Experience with GIS and remote sensing technologies in agriculture.
  • Familiarity with Mauritian agricultural practices and local crop varieties.
  • Proficiency in French and Creole in addition to English.
  • Certification in specific agricultural areas (e.g., organic farming, crop protection).
