Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of farms, crops, and agricultural facilities to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Provide expert advice and technical assistance to farmers on best agricultural practices, crop management, pest and disease control, and sustainable farming techniques.
- Assess and report on agricultural conditions, identify potential risks, and propose practical solutions to enhance productivity and sustainability.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, and farmer associations, to promote agricultural development.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, maintain accurate records, and contribute to the development of agricultural policies and guidelines.
- Organize and deliver training sessions and workshops for farmers on new technologies, farming methods, and regulatory updates.
- Collect and analyze agricultural data to monitor trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and inform decision-making.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in agricultural inspection, extension services, or farm management.
- In-depth knowledge of Mauritian agricultural practices, crops, pests, and diseases.
- Strong understanding of national and international agricultural regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills (English and French/Creole).
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
- Valid driving license and ability to travel frequently to various farm locations.
