Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Agronomist with a specialization in soil science and cultivation practices to join a dynamic agricultural team in Curepipe, Mauritius. This pivotal on-site role is for an individual passionate about enhancing crop yields, improving soil health, and implementing sustainable farming techniques across various agricultural projects. You will be instrumental in conducting detailed soil analyses, developing bespoke fertilization programs, advising on crop rotation strategies, and guiding farmers and agricultural stakeholders on best practices for cultivation. Your expertise will directly contribute to optimizing productivity, minimizing environmental impact, and ensuring the long-term viability of agricultural lands.

As an Agronomist, you will engage in both field-based and analytical work, requiring a blend of scientific understanding and practical application. This involves frequent visits to farms, data collection, laboratory result interpretation, and the translation of complex agricultural science into actionable advice for growers. You will be a key resource in identifying and resolving issues related to soil degradation, nutrient deficiencies, pest and disease management through cultivation practices, and water management. We are looking for a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills, capable of building strong relationships with local farmers and contributing to the overall advancement of agricultural practices in Mauritius. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive soil sampling and analysis to determine nutrient levels, pH, organic matter content, and soil structure.
  • Develop and implement tailored soil fertility management plans, including fertilization schedules and amendment recommendations.
  • Advise on optimal crop cultivation techniques, planting densities, irrigation strategies, and harvesting methods specific to local conditions.
  • Monitor crop health, identify pests, diseases, and nutritional deficiencies, and recommend appropriate integrated pest management (IPM) and cultivation-based solutions.
  • Design and execute field trials to evaluate new crop varieties, fertilizers, and cultivation practices.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to farmers and agricultural staff on sustainable farming practices.
  • Maintain detailed records of soil tests, crop performance, treatment applications, and yield data.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in agricultural science, technology, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other agricultural specialists, researchers, and government agencies to promote best practices.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on findings and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Fluency in French and Mauritian Creole.
