Job Description
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of airport operations, safety regulations, and emergency procedures. The Airport Operations Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant daily functioning of the airport environment. This dynamic position involves overseeing various operational activities, coordinating with diverse stakeholders including airlines, air traffic control, ground handling services, security, and maintenance teams. You will be instrumental in managing the flow of aircraft and passengers, responding to operational incidents, and upholding the highest standards of safety and service. Your contribution directly impacts the passenger experience and the overall efficiency of air travel within our region.
The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with exceptional communication skills, capable of making critical decisions under pressure. You will be responsible for meticulously monitoring airfield conditions, terminal operations, and ensuring adherence to all Transport Canada regulations, airport specific bylaws, and internal policies. This includes conducting regular inspections of runways, taxiways, aprons, and other critical infrastructure, identifying potential hazards, and implementing corrective actions promptly. Furthermore, you will be a key point of contact during irregular operations, such as severe weather delays, technical issues affecting airport systems, or security alerts, coordinating rapid responses and disseminating accurate information effectively to minimize disruption and ensure passenger and staff well-being. This requires a calm demeanor and the ability to multitask in high-stress situations.
Beyond day-to-day oversight, the Airport Operations Coordinator contributes significantly to longer-term operational planning and improvement initiatives. This involves active participation in emergency drills, ongoing training sessions, and continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing overall operational resilience, safety protocols, and efficiency across all airport functions. You will be proficient in utilizing various airport management systems and advanced communication tools to track aircraft movements, log incidents, manage resources, and generate detailed reports. These reports provide valuable insights for strategic operational decision-making and compliance auditing. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and inspect airfield, terminal, and groundside operations for safety, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with airlines, ATC, ground handlers, security, and other airport stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
- Respond to and manage operational incidents, emergencies, and irregular operations (e.g., medical emergencies, security breaches, severe weather).
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, incident reports, and activity records.
- Disseminate critical information and instructions to relevant personnel and stakeholders.
- Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and training exercises.
- Ensure adherence to Transport Canada regulations, airport bylaws, and company policies.
- Operate and monitor airport communication systems and operational software.
- Assist with passenger flow management and support during peak periods or disruptions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in an airport operations or similar aviation environment.
- Strong understanding of aviation safety and security regulations (e.g., Transport Canada).
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions quickly under pressure and in emergency situations.
- Proficiency in using airport operational software and communication systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Aviation Management, Transportation, or a related field.
- Experience with emergency response protocols and incident management.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is a strong asset due to the location.
- Knowledge of local airport procedures and bylaws.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
