ZanTours is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Airport Porter Assistant to join our dynamic team. This essential role plays a crucial part in ensuring a smooth, welcoming, and efficient experience for our arriving and departing guests at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ). As an Airport Porter Assistant, you will often be the friendly face that provides the first and last impression of Zanzibar for many of our clients, embodying the warmth and hospitality the island is known for.
Your primary responsibility will involve meticulously assisting guests with their luggage, ensuring its safe and efficient transport to and from transfer vehicles, and providing a helpful hand with any immediate needs or basic inquiries upon arrival or departure. This position demands a keen eye for detail, a strong commitment to punctuality, and excellent physical stamina, as you will be regularly on your feet and handling various types of baggage throughout your shifts. Key Responsibilities
- Assist arriving and departing passengers with their luggage, including careful loading and unloading from transfer vehicles.
- Safely transport baggage using trolleys or by hand within designated airport areas, strictly adhering to all safety protocols and company guidelines.
- Provide friendly, courteous, and proactive assistance to guests, answering basic inquiries and directing them as needed with a warm demeanor.
- Coordinate effectively and communicate clearly with transfer drivers, tour guides, and other airport staff to ensure seamless guest transitions.
- Maintain a professional appearance and uphold ZanTours' high standards of customer service and brand representation at all times.
- Promptly report any instances of lost, damaged, or mishandled luggage to supervisors for immediate resolution.
- Assist with general logistical support and ad-hoc tasks as required to ensure smooth and efficient airport operations.
Required Skills
- Excellent physical stamina and the ability to lift and carry heavy luggage (up to 25kg) comfortably and safely.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills in English; ability to engage positively and professionally with a diverse range of international clients.
- Highly reliable, punctual, and possesses a strong, unwavering work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as an integral part of a collaborative team.
- Customer service-oriented mindset with a genuinely helpful and friendly demeanor, dedicated to guest satisfaction.
- Basic understanding of airport procedures, security protocols, and safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service, hospitality, or porter role, preferably within an airport or hotel setting.
- Proficiency in Swahili and/or other foreign languages (e.g., German, French, Italian) to better assist international guests.
- Familiarity with the layout and operational flow of Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ).
- Possession of a valid first aid certification is considered a significant advantage.
