Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate an ambulance in all weather and traffic conditions, adhering to all local traffic laws and emergency driving protocols.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls promptly and professionally, maintaining communication with dispatch.
- Transport patients to and from medical facilities, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and safety throughout the journey.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including fuel, fluid levels, tires, lights, and ensure medical equipment is present and functional.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the ambulance interior and exterior, performing light cleaning and disinfection.
- Assist paramedics and EMTs with patient loading and unloading, including stretcher and wheelchair transfers, and securing medical equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all company policies, medical transport regulations, and patient privacy (GDPR) guidelines.
- Complete accurate vehicle logs, mileage reports, incident reports, and patient transport documentation in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with dispatch, medical staff, patients, and their families.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, compassion, and ethical conduct at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Class B (or equivalent German Class 3) driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional driving experience, preferably in emergency services, logistics, or patient transport.
- Proven ability to navigate efficiently using GPS, mapping tools, and comprehensive local geographical knowledge.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with patients and team members.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and decisive under pressure in emergency situations.
- Physical ability to assist with patient handling, including lifting and transferring, and manipulation of medical equipment.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety procedures relevant to emergency vehicles.
- Current First Aid certification (e.g., Sanitätshelfer, Ersthelfer, or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
- Specific training in emergency vehicle operations (e.g., Sondersignalfahrertraining or comparable certifications).
- Certification as a Rettungshelfer (Emergency Medical Helper) or Sanitätshelfer (Medical Helper) is highly advantageous.
- Prior experience working in a healthcare, emergency medical services (EMS), or hospital environment.
- Familiarity with basic medical terminology and stringent patient privacy regulations (e.g., DSGVO/GDPR).
- Fluency in German (B2 level or higher) to effectively communicate with patients and local emergency services.
- Experience with various types of patient transport, including bariatric and specialized equipment transport.
