Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of animal enclosures, kennels, and common areas to maintain a healthy and hygienic environment.
- Provide fresh food and water to animals according to established feeding schedules and dietary requirements.
- Monitor animals for any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes, reporting concerns promptly to senior staff.
- Assist with animal handling, restraint, and movement as needed, always prioritizing animal safety and comfort.
- Engage in enrichment activities and provide basic socialization to animals to promote their mental and physical well-being.
- Administer prescribed medications under direct supervision, accurately documenting dosages and times.
- Launder bedding, towels, and other animal-related items regularly.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, feeding, cleaning, and observations.
- Assist with incoming animal intake procedures and outgoing adoption processes.
- Contribute to maintaining overall facility cleanliness and organization.
Required Skills
- Genuine passion and empathy for animals.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Comfortable working with various animal species and temperaments.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous volunteer experience in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar setting (though not required for hire, it's a plus).
- Familiarity with basic animal first aid or CPR is a bonus.
