Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily health checks and observe animals for any signs of illness or distress.
  • Provide routine animal husbandry, including feeding, watering, and cage changing, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by veterinary staff or researchers.
  • Assist researchers with experimental procedures, sample collection (e.g., blood, tissue), and data recording.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of animal health, experimental data, and facility maintenance logs.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper sterilization and calibration.
  • Adhere strictly to all animal welfare regulations, institutional guidelines, and safety protocols (e.g., GLP, GCP).
  • Monitor environmental conditions within animal housing areas (temperature, humidity, light cycles).
  • Participate in facility sanitation and waste disposal procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with veterinary staff, researchers, and other laboratory personnel.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as an Animal Lab Technician or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of animal handling, husbandry, and welfare principles.
  • Proficiency in administering treatments and assisting with common experimental procedures.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and work with data.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical ability to lift and move cages, feed bags, and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Laboratory Animal Technology (e.g., FELASA B/C, AALAS).
