Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily feeding and monitoring of aquatic species, observing behaviour and growth.
  • Assist with routine water quality testing and analysis, ensuring optimal environmental conditions.
  • Conduct cleaning and maintenance of tanks, filters, and all aquaculture equipment following strict protocols.
  • Monitor fish health, identify any signs of stress or disease, and report findings to senior staff.
  • Accurately collect and record data on growth rates, feed consumption, water parameters, and inventory.
  • Participate in fish transfers, grading, sorting, and harvesting activities as required.
  • Adhere strictly to all biosecurity, safety, and operational protocols to maintain a healthy and secure facility.
  • Contribute to the general upkeep, organization, and cleanliness of the aquaculture facility.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of biology, marine science, or environmental science principles.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and an eagerness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting moderate weights (up to 25 kg) and standing for extended periods.
  • Excellent observation skills, meticulous attention to detail, and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and record-keeping.
  • Adaptability to changing environmental conditions, schedules, and a unique work environment in the Arctic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Fisheries, or a related technical field.
  • Previous experience (volunteer, internship, or paid) working with aquatic animals, in a laboratory, or on a farm.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Experience living or working in remote or northern communities.
