Key Responsibilities

  • Actively scout, identify, and evaluate emerging musical talent across various genres through live shows, online platforms, and industry networks.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with artists, managers, producers, legal professionals, and other key industry contacts.
  • Attend showcases, concerts, and industry events to stay abreast of current trends and discover new talent.
  • Provide constructive creative feedback and guidance to artists during the demo and recording processes.
  • Work closely with legal and business affairs teams to negotiate and finalize artist recording agreements.
  • Collaborate with marketing, publicity, and promotion teams to strategize artist development and release plans.
  • Monitor competitor activity and stay informed about shifts in the music market and emerging technologies.
  • Prepare detailed reports on potential signings, including market analysis, projected costs, and revenue streams.
  • Champion artists internally, ensuring their creative vision aligns with label objectives.

Required Skills

  • Proven track record of identifying and signing successful musical talent.
  • Exceptional ear for music and a deep understanding of diverse genres and industry trends.
  • Extensive network within the music industry (artists, producers, managers, venues, etc.).
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency in music industry software and digital discovery platforms.
  • Demonstrable passion for music and a commitment to artist development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Arts Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience with A&R scouting or talent management within a record label, publishing company, or related music entity.
  • Understanding of music licensing, copyright, and publishing basics.
  • Familiarity with the Edinburgh and broader Scottish music scene.
  • Proficiency in a second language relevant to international music markets (e.g., French, Spanish, German).
