As an an A&R Representative, you will be the frontline scout, responsible for discovering and nurturing the stars of tomorrow. Your days will be dynamic, spanning from scouring digital platforms and attending live showcases to building crucial relationships with artists, managers, producers, and industry influencers. You’ll be instrumental in negotiating deals, providing creative input on recordings, and guiding artists through their developmental journey from demo to release and beyond. This role demands a proactive individual who is not afraid to take initiative, possesses sharp business acumen, and can articulate a compelling vision for an artist’s career path. You will work closely with marketing, legal, and production teams, ensuring a cohesive strategy for each artist signed. Key Responsibilities
- Scout, identify, and evaluate new talent through various channels including live performances, digital submissions, and industry networking events.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with artists, managers, producers, songwriters, and other key industry contacts.
- Negotiate and secure recording and publishing deals with promising artists, ensuring favourable terms for both the artist and the label.
- Provide creative guidance and A&R direction throughout the recording process, from demo selection to final mix and master.
- Collaborate closely with marketing, promotion, legal, and business affairs teams to develop comprehensive artist development and release strategies.
- Monitor music trends, competitive landscapes, and industry shifts to inform A&R strategy and maintain a leading edge.
- Prepare and present compelling artist pitches and proposals to senior management.
- Attend industry events, showcases, and festivals to represent the label and scout for talent.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (3+ years) in an A&R role or a similar talent scouting/development position within the music industry.
- Exceptional ear for music across diverse genres and a deep understanding of popular culture and emerging trends.
- Strong network of contacts within the UK music industry (artists, managers, producers, promoters).
- Demonstrable negotiation and deal-making skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in music industry standard software and digital platforms.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Business, Arts Administration, or a related field.
- Existing track record of successfully signed and developed artists.
- Understanding of music intellectual property rights and legal frameworks.
- Experience with music analytics tools and data-driven A&R strategies.
