Key Responsibilities
- Manage, organize, and preserve physical and digital archival collections in accordance with established standards.
- Catalog, classify, and index historical documents, manuscripts, photographs, and born-digital records with precision.
- Implement comprehensive conservation and preservation strategies for fragile and valuable materials.
- Provide expert assistance and guidance to researchers, scholars, and the general public with inquiries and access to archival collections.
- Develop and apply archival policies, procedures, and best practices in line with national and international guidelines.
- Actively participate in digitization projects, managing digital assets, metadata creation, and ensuring long-term digital preservation.
- Conduct outreach and educational programs, tours, or workshops related to archival collections to engage diverse audiences.
- Maintain accurate records of accessions, loans, disposition, and overall collection usage and statistics.
- Monitor environmental conditions within storage areas to prevent deterioration of archival materials.
- Collaborate with other departments and external partners on interdisciplinary projects.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Archival Science, History, Library Science, Information Science, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of two years of proven professional experience in archive management and preservation techniques.
- Proficiency in archival descriptive standards (e.g., ISAD(G), DACS) and metadata schemas.
- Demonstrable familiarity with archival management software and collection databases.
- Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail in handling delicate materials and complex data.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Fluency in both German and English, written and spoken, is essential for communication with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Practical experience with digital archiving tools and methodologies for long-term digital preservation.
- In-depth knowledge of German historical context, legal frameworks pertaining to archives, and data protection regulations.
