Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical faults in vehicles, including issues with wiring, lighting, ignition, charging, and starting systems using diagnostic equipment and technical manuals.
- Perform precise repairs and replacements of faulty electrical components such as alternators, starters, batteries, sensors, wiring harnesses, ECUs, and other electronic modules.
- Install, repair, and maintain automotive electrical systems, including audio systems, alarms, tracking devices, navigation systems, and other aftermarket accessories.
- Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to identify and rectify circuit breaks, short circuits, and other electrical malfunctions.
- Conduct thorough testing of repaired or newly installed electrical systems to ensure full functionality and compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all diagnostic tests, repairs, parts used, and services performed.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in automotive electrical technology and repair techniques through continuous professional development.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and workshop procedures.
- Provide technical advice and support to colleagues and customers regarding electrical issues and solutions.
Required Skills
- Expertise in automotive electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Strong hands-on experience with wiring repair, soldering, crimping, and routing.
- Competency in using a wide range of diagnostic tools, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and scan tools.
- In-depth knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, components (e.g., CAN bus, LIN bus), and their interdependencies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or technical diploma in Automotive Electrical Systems or a related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., ASE, City & Guilds, NVQ) in automotive electrical repair.
