Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly prepare vehicle surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, masking, and applying fillers and primers.
- Accurately mix and match paint colours using precise formulas and visual assessment to ensure seamless blending and consistent shades.
- Apply multiple coats of paint, clear coats, and other finishes using professional spray guns and advanced application techniques.
- Operate and meticulously maintain all spray painting equipment and tools, ensuring proper cleaning, calibration, and functionality.
- Inspect painted surfaces meticulously for any defects such as runs, sags, dust, or uneven texture, and perform necessary rectification and polishing.
- Ensure all work is carried out to the highest quality standards, adhering to manufacturer specifications and within specified timelines.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, wearing appropriate PPE and following company policies.
- Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with panel beaters, vehicle repair technicians, and other workshop staff to coordinate tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times, including proper disposal of hazardous materials.
- Assist in accurately estimating paint requirements, material costs, and timeframes for various repair jobs.
- Continuously learn and adapt to new paint technologies, equipment, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as an Auto Spray Painter or a similar automotive refinishing role.
- In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of paint mixing techniques and precise colour matching.
- Proficiency in operating various types of spray painting equipment, including conventional, HVLP, and airless spray guns.
- Strong understanding of different types of automotive paints, primers, clear coats, and related chemicals.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for achieving a high-quality, flawless finish.
- Demonstrated ability to meticulously prepare surfaces (sanding, masking, priming) to industry standards.
- Solid understanding of health and safety regulations pertinent to spray painting, including proper ventilation and PPE use.
- Strong manual dexterity, good hand-eye coordination, and physical stamina for prolonged standing and repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively as part of a cohesive team.
- Effective verbal communication skills to interact with colleagues and supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
- A recognized Trade Certificate or relevant vocational qualification in Auto Spray Painting, Panel Beating, or Automotive Refinishing.
- Demonstrated experience with modern water-based paint systems and environmental regulations.
- Basic knowledge of minor bodywork repair techniques and filler application.
- Possession of a valid Class 4 driver's license (Zimbabwean) is an advantage.
- Familiarity with computerised colour matching systems and spectrophotometers.
