Job Description

Are you a highly skilled and meticulous Auto Spray Painter with a passion for precision and a keen eye for detail? ONATRACOM is seeking an experienced Auto Spray Painter to join our dedicated vehicle maintenance team in Karongi. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for preparing vehicles for painting, mixing paints to match specific colors, and applying coats to achieve a flawless, high-quality finish. Your expertise will ensure that our diverse fleet of public transport vehicles not only performs optimally but also maintains an excellent visual appearance, reflecting the professionalism and reliability of ONATRACOM. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting, including thorough cleaning, meticulous sanding, precise masking, and professional application of primers.
  • Accurately mix and match paint colors to achieve exact color reproduction and consistent, seamless finishes across all vehicle types.
  • Skillfully apply various layers of paint, lacquer, and clear coats using modern spray guns and other specialized painting equipment.
  • Conduct rigorous inspections of finished surfaces to guarantee impeccable quality, ensuring the absence of runs, sags, dust inclusions, or unpainted areas.
  • Execute minor bodywork repairs such as filling dents, smoothing surfaces, and addressing imperfections before the painting process begins.
  • Maintain, clean, and calibrate all painting equipment, spray booths, and work areas regularly to ensure optimal performance and a safe working environment.
  • Strictly adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations pertaining to paint disposal, handling of hazardous materials, and general workshop safety.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot paint defects, such as blistering or orange peel, and implement effective corrective measures to achieve desired results.
  • Collaborate effectively with other technicians, mechanics, and workshop staff to ensure the timely and efficient completion of all vehicle maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of paint usage, job progress, and materials consumed for inventory and reporting purposes.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience of at least 3 years as an Auto Spray Painter or Vehicle Refinisher, demonstrating a strong portfolio of work.
  • Expert-level proficiency in paint mixing, precise color matching, and various advanced paint application techniques.
  • Thorough familiarity with different types of automotive paints and finishes, including acrylics, enamels, urethanes, and water-based paints.
  • Highly skilled in using and maintaining a range of painting tools and equipment, such as HVLP spray guns, sanders, and polishes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality workmanship.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as a valuable team member.
  • Good physical stamina, excellent manual dexterity, and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety procedures for handling hazardous materials, operating painting equipment, and maintaining a safe workshop environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or certification in Auto Body Repair, Vehicle Painting, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
  • Prior experience working specifically with commercial vehicles, buses, or heavy machinery, understanding their unique painting requirements.
  • Basic understanding of vehicle body structure, panel beating, and general repair techniques.
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda is essential, coupled with a working knowledge of English or French for technical documentation and communication.
