Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Bank Teller – Cashier to join our vibrant team at the Bassin, Quatre Bornes branch. As the primary point of contact for our customers, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional service and ensuring smooth, efficient, and accurate financial transactions. Key Responsibilities

  • Process a wide range of customer transactions accurately and efficiently, including deposits, withdrawals, cheque cashing, loan payments, utility bill payments, and foreign currency exchanges.
  • Balance cash drawer daily, ensuring accuracy and strict adherence to bank procedures and security policies.
  • Assist customers with account inquiries, provide detailed information on bank products and services, and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
  • Proactively identify customer needs and cross-sell appropriate bank products and services (e.g., savings accounts, credit cards, personal loans, digital banking solutions) when opportunities arise.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all bank products, services, policies, and regulatory compliance requirements, including anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) guidelines.
  • Adhere strictly to all internal controls, operational procedures, and bank security protocols to safeguard bank assets and customer information.
  • Promote a positive and professional image of MCB through excellent customer service, clear communication, and a welcoming demeanor.
  • Collaborate effectively with other branch staff and departments to ensure a cohesive and supportive team environment and seamless customer experience.
  • Handle customer complaints or escalate complex issues to appropriate supervisory personnel for timely and effective resolution.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance banking knowledge and skills.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience in a customer service role, preferably in a financial or retail environment (minimum 18 months).
  • Excellent cash handling and numerical accuracy skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse customers.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High level of integrity, trustworthiness, and ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive, customer-centric approach to addressing needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Banking & Finance, Commerce, Economics, or a related business field.
  • Previous experience as a Bank Teller or Cashier in a commercial bank.
  • Fluency in both English and French; knowledge of Mauritian Creole is a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated sales aptitude or experience in identifying customer needs and promoting relevant products/services.
  • Familiarity with banking software and core banking systems.
  • Knowledge of local financial regulations and market trends.
