Job Description

People’s Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ) is seeking a dedicated Banking Operations Support professional to join our dynamic team in Chukwani, Zanzibar City. In this pivotal full-time role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and compliant execution of our daily banking operations. You will be at the heart of our back-office functions, contributing significantly to transaction processing, data integrity, reconciliations, and regulatory adherence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process daily banking transactions accurately and efficiently, including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and cheque processing.
  • Perform daily reconciliations of accounts, statements, and ledgers to ensure data integrity and identify discrepancies.
  • Monitor and resolve operational issues, escalating complex problems to relevant departments or management as needed.
  • Ensure strict adherence to internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., KYC, AML) to mitigate risks.
  • Maintain and update customer records and transaction data with utmost confidentiality and precision.
  • Generate and analyze operational reports to identify trends, performance metrics, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with front-office staff and other departments to provide timely operational support and resolve customer queries.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of banking operations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in banking operations or a similar back-office financial role.
  • Strong understanding of banking principles, products, and operational workflows.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in all tasks.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a demanding environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Banking & Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with core banking systems and financial software.
  • Certification in banking operations or risk management.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance in the Tanzanian financial sector.
