Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a wide range of coffee and non-coffee beverages, including espresso, latte, cappuccino, specialty drinks, and teas, consistently adhering to established recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines.
- Operate and meticulously maintain all coffee equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, and brewers, ensuring optimal performance, cleanliness, and proper functionality at all times.
- Provide exemplary customer service, warmly greeting customers, accurately taking orders, offering knowledgeable recommendations, and handling inquiries with a friendly and enthusiastic demeanor.
- Accurately process cash and credit card transactions using a Point-of-Sale (POS) system, managing change and ensuring proper reconciliation.
- Maintain an immaculate and organized work environment, including the coffee bar, back-of-house areas, display cases, and customer seating areas, upholding strict hygiene standards.
- Monitor and manage coffee bean, milk, pastry, and other inventory levels, proactively communicating stock needs and potential shortages to management.
- Educate customers on different coffee origins, brewing methods, flavor profiles, and available retail products to enhance their coffee experience.
- Strictly adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations mandated by local authorities.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations, especially during peak hours, fostering a positive team dynamic.
- Assist with comprehensive opening and closing procedures, including cleaning, restocking, and cash handling.
- Engage with customers to build rapport and create a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Barista, with at least 6 months of experience, preferably within a fast-paced coffee shop or similar hospitality environment.
- Exceptional knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, espresso extraction, milk steaming, and basic latte art.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, and effective communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, prioritize tasks, and maintain composure in a dynamic, team-oriented setting.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations for handling transactions and managing inventory.
- Solid understanding of health, safety, and hygiene regulations relevant to food service.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- A genuine passion for coffee and a desire to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Barista certification or completion of a relevant culinary/hospitality training program.
- Experience with various brewing methods beyond espresso (e.g., pour-over, French press, cold brew).
- Familiarity with local Jamaican coffee culture and trends.
- Ability to suggest and upsell products effectively.
- A track record of reliability and punctuality.
