Job Description

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a wide range of coffee beverages (espresso, latte, cappuccino, americano, etc.), teas, and other specialty drinks according to Daily Deli's precise recipes and uncompromising quality standards.
- Operate and meticulously maintain espresso machines, coffee grinders, blenders, and all other coffee-making equipment, ensuring they are consistently clean, sanitized, and in excellent operational condition.
- Accurately take customer orders, process payments efficiently using our point-of-sale (POS) systems, and handle cash and card transactions with utmost precision and integrity.
- Engage with customers in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner, providing informed recommendations, answering questions, and ensuring a consistently positive and memorable experience.
- Maintain an exceptionally clean, organized, and hygienic coffee bar area, including all counter-tops, equipment, and customer seating zones, adhering strictly to health and safety regulations.
- Monitor and diligently replenish coffee beans, milk, syrups, disposable cups, and other essential ingredients, proactively informing management of any low stock levels to prevent shortages.
- Adhere strictly to all established food safety and sanitation guidelines and protocols at all times.
- Assist with other general cafe duties as needed, such as light food preparation (e.g., sandwiches), serving pastries, restocking display cases, or performing general cleaning tasks.
- Collaborate effectively and harmoniously with team members to ensure smooth operational flow and efficient service, particularly during peak business hours.
- Handle customer feedback, inquiries, and resolve minor service issues gracefully and professionally, escalating more complex matters to the shift supervisor or management as appropriate.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume, customer-focused environment.
- Strong verbal communication skills in both English and French; proficiency in Mauritian Creole is a significant advantage.
- Excellent customer service orientation, a consistently positive attitude, and a genuine passion for hospitality.
- Basic foundational knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, different coffee bean types, and brewing methods.
- Ability to accurately operate a point-of-sale (POS) system and handle cash transactions with speed and precision.
- High level of attention to detail and a disciplined ability to follow recipes and procedural guidelines precisely.
- Demonstrated reliability, impeccable punctuality, and a strong, dedicated work ethic.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and lift up to 10 kg when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 months of prior experience as a Barista or in a directly comparable customer service role within the food and beverage industry.
- Familiarity with various advanced coffee brewing methods, including pour-over and cold brew, and basic latte art techniques.
- Possession of a valid certification in food hygiene and safety standards.
- A genuine, deep-seated passion for coffee culture and an enthusiastic desire to continuously learn and expand knowledge within the industry.
