Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Battery Service Aide to join our team in Lumbo, Ilha de Moçambique. As a Battery Service Aide, you will be instrumental in ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of various battery systems used across our diverse equipment fleet, which may include marine vessels, port equipment, and operational vehicles. Your primary responsibilities will involve the inspection, maintenance, testing, charging, and replacement of batteries, ensuring all tasks are performed safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of various battery types (e.g., lead-acid, lithium-ion) across a range of operational equipment.
- Accurately diagnose battery issues, including voltage drops, capacity loss, and physical damage, using appropriate diagnostic tools.
- Execute safe and efficient charging procedures for batteries, adhering to manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols.
- Conduct battery replacements and installations, ensuring proper connections and secure mounting.
- Maintain detailed records of battery service, including inspection dates, test results, maintenance performed, and replacement history.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and environmental regulations, especially when handling hazardous materials.
- Assist with inventory management of batteries and related components, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Provide support to other maintenance teams as needed, contributing to the overall operational efficiency.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and cared for.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding battery status, issues, and completed tasks.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems and battery technology.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, hydrometers, and load testers.
- Physical dexterity and strength to lift and move heavy batteries (up to 25 kg) and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate record-keeping.
- Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures diligently.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and communication.
- Fluency in Portuguese (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience (6+ months) in a similar battery service, automotive, or marine maintenance role.
- Vocational training or certification in electrical systems, automotive technology, or a related technical field.
- Knowledge of various battery chemistries and their specific handling requirements.
- Experience working in a port, maritime, or industrial environment.
- Valid driver's license (Category B or higher).
