Protea Hotel by Marriott Grahamstown is seeking a dedicated and friendly Bellhop to join our esteemed team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone passionate about delivering outstanding guest experiences and eager to learn the foundational aspects of hotel operations. As a Bellhop, you will be the first and last impression for many of our guests, playing a crucial role in shaping their stay with us. Your primary responsibility will be to assist guests with their luggage, ensuring a smooth and welcoming arrival and departure. Beyond luggage handling, you will be a valuable source of information, directing guests to their rooms, providing details about hotel amenities, and offering insights into the local attractions of Makhanda. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a helpful demeanor, and the physical stamina to handle various tasks throughout your shift, including standing, walking, lifting, and carrying. You’ll be an integral part of our Front Office team, working closely with reception, concierge, and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery. Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greet all guests upon arrival and departure, offering assistance with luggage.
- Safely transport guest luggage to and from their rooms, ensuring careful handling.
- Escort guests to their rooms, providing a brief orientation to hotel facilities and room features.
- Provide accurate information about hotel services, amenities, and local attractions in Makhanda.
- Assist guests with parking or valet services as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the lobby, entrance, and bell stand area.
- Handle guest inquiries and resolve minor issues promptly and courteously, escalating when necessary.
- Collaborate with the Front Desk and other departments to ensure smooth guest transitions and service delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management to support hotel operations.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation with a friendly and helpful attitude.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical stamina to lift and carry heavy luggage (up to 25 kg) and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Punctuality and reliability.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role (e.g., retail, food service).
- A valid driver's license (for potential valet duties).
