Key Responsibilities
- Assess, review, and process claims for various welfare benefits, including Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, and Council Tax Support, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policy.
- Conduct comprehensive interviews with applicants, both face-to-face and over the phone, to gather necessary information and clarify circumstances.
- Verify documentation, identify discrepancies, and investigate complex cases to ensure accurate and equitable benefit assessments.
- Provide clear, accurate, and sensitive advice to applicants regarding their eligibility, application process, and potential entitlements.
- Maintain meticulous records and accurate data entry on bespoke benefits systems, adhering to strict data protection guidelines.
- Liaise effectively with internal departments, external agencies, and third-party organisations to resolve queries and gather supplementary information.
- Handle appeals and complaints professionally, preparing reports and presenting findings as required.
- Stay updated with changes in benefit legislation, policies, and procedures through continuous professional development and training.
- Contribute to team meetings, sharing insights and best practices to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Benefits Assessor, Advisor, or similar role (minimum 12 months).
- In-depth knowledge of UK welfare benefits system, including Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, and Council Tax Support.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex information clearly and empathetically.
- Proficiency in using IT systems, including databases and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and prioritise tasks effectively under pressure.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection regulations (GDPR).
