We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team, playing a crucial role in managing the financial records for a diverse portfolio of clients. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain accurate financial records for multiple clients, including general ledgers, journals, and balance sheets.
- Process payroll efficiently and accurately for various client companies, ensuring timely payments and full compliance with HMRC regulations and statutory requirements.
- Prepare, process, and reconcile sales invoices, purchase invoices, and expense reports with precision.
- Conduct regular bank reconciliations and reconcile various general ledger accounts to ensure data integrity.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT returns, P.A.Y.E. returns, and other essential statutory submissions.
- Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable, actively following up on outstanding payments as necessary to maintain healthy cash flow.
- Provide regular, comprehensive financial reports and analysis to clients and senior management, offering clear insights into financial performance.
- Collaborate effectively with clients to gather necessary financial documentation, resolve discrepancies, and address any financial queries.
- Ensure all financial transactions and record-keeping practices comply strictly with relevant accounting standards and company policies.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, ensuring all deadlines are met and accounts are prepared for audit if required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar financial role, typically 3+ years.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent).
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Demonstrable experience with payroll processing and a thorough understanding of HMRC regulations.
- Excellent data entry, numerical accuracy, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities, with a capacity to manage multiple client accounts.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also effectively as part of a team.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to task completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- AAT qualification (Association of Accounting Technicians) or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- Experience working with multiple clients or within an accounting practice/firm.
- Knowledge of various industry-specific financial reporting requirements.
- Familiarity with cloud-based accounting solutions and integrated financial systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interaction.
