As a Bookstore Cashier, you will play a crucial role in managing all customer transactions, assisting with inquiries, and maintaining the inviting ambiance of our store. You will accurately handle cash, credit/debit card, and mobile payments, process returns and exchanges efficiently, and ensure the point-of-sale system is always accurate. Beyond transactions, your role involves assisting customers in finding their desired titles, providing thoughtful recommendations, and helping to keep the sales floor tidy, well-stocked, and visually appealing. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate cash register, POS system, and handle financial transactions accurately (cash, credit/debit card, mobile payments).
  • Provide friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable customer service, assisting with inquiries and book recommendations.
  • Process returns, exchanges, and special orders in accordance with store policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting checkout area and sales floor.
  • Assist with shelving, restocking, and merchandising books and other products.
  • Participate in inventory management tasks, including receiving and tagging new arrivals.
  • Stay informed about new releases, promotions, and store events.
  • Address customer concerns professionally and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and uphold store standards.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a cashier or in a customer service role, preferably in a retail environment.
  • Excellent numerical skills and meticulous attention to detail for handling cash and transactions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Ability to operate a Point-of-Sale (POS) system efficiently.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort with technology.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible part-time hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • A genuine passion for books and reading across various genres.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a bookstore or library setting.
  • Familiarity with various book genres, popular authors, and publishing trends.
  • Ability to speak multiple local languages (e.g., Ibibio, Efik) is a plus.
