Key Responsibilities
- Lay bricks, blocks, and other building materials in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine materials required and dimensions of structure.
- Prepare and clean work sites, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations, including working at height and in confined spaces.
- Cut and trim bricks and blocks to specification using trowel, hammer, or power tools.
- Mix mortar, grout, and other compounds according to established formulas and consistency requirements.
- Restore and repair existing masonry structures, ensuring structural integrity and aesthetic consistency.
- Ensure all work meets relevant building codes, quality standards, and project specifications.
- Collaborate effectively with site managers, other tradespeople, and construction teams to ensure smooth project progression.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and report any malfunctions or defects.
- Adhere strictly to all site-specific security protocols and operational procedures pertinent to working within an airport environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Bricklayer on commercial or industrial sites.
- Proficiency in various bricklaying techniques (e.g., English bond, Flemish bond, stretcher bond).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications accurately.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety regulations (e.g., CSCS card).
- Excellent physical stamina and manual dexterity.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to site challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Bricklaying or equivalent qualification.
- First Aid at Work certification.
- Experience working in a secure or high-security environment (e.g., airport, military base).
- Full UK driving license.
- Experience with various types of masonry, including stone and concrete block work.
