Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bricklayer Journeyman to become a vital part of our dynamic construction team, serving the vibrant Powderhorn neighborhood and wider Minneapolis area. As a Bricklayer Journeyman, you will play a pivotal role in constructing and repairing a diverse range of structures, including walls, foundations, arches, and specialized features, utilizing bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and various other masonry units. You will contribute to a wide array of commercial and residential ventures, directly impacting the lasting infrastructure and visual appeal of our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other masonry materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout, dimensions, and material requirements.
  • Measure and cut masonry materials accurately to required sizes using hand and power tools.
  • Prepare and mix mortar, grout, and other compounds according to specific ratios and project requirements.
  • Ensure surfaces are properly cleaned, prepared, and level for optimal masonry application and adhesion.
  • Adhere strictly to all building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards on every job site.
  • Operate various masonry tools and heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate effectively with other construction trades, project managers, and team members.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, performing general site clean-up as needed.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of finished work for quality, accuracy, and adherence to design specifications.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a certified Journeyman Bricklayer
  • Expertise in laying bricks, concrete blocks, and natural stone
  • Comprehensive knowledge of advanced masonry techniques and material properties
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret complex blueprints and schematics
  • In-depth understanding of various mortar types, mixing ratios, and application methods
  • Proficiency in safely operating and maintaining a wide range of hand and power tools specific to the trade (e.g., trowels, levels, hammers, saws, grinders)
  • Exceptional physical stamina, strength, and manual dexterity required for sustained physical labor
  • Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to precision in all tasks
  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding rigorous workplace safety practices and protocols

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification in construction safety
  • Completion of a recognized vocational training program or formal apprenticeship in masonry
  • Experience with historical masonry restoration, decorative masonry, or specialized architectural designs
  • Valid driver's license and a reliable means of transportation to various job sites
