Job Description

Are you a highly skilled and dedicated Bricklayer with a passion for precision and structural integrity? Gamma Civic Ltd, a distinguished leader in the Mauritian construction industry, is actively seeking an experienced Bricklayer to enhance our on-site teams operating within the vibrant region of Curepipe. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the precise laying of bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other building materials to construct, repair, and maintain walls, foundations, partitions, chimneys, and other masonry structures. You will meticulously interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications, ensuring all work adheres to stringent building codes, quality standards, and safety regulations. Your daily tasks will include mixing mortar, cutting and shaping bricks and blocks, accurately setting out work, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. Key Responsibilities

  • Lay bricks, blocks, and other construction materials to build or repair walls, foundations, partitions, archways, and other structures according to specifications.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine exact dimensions and angles for masonry work.
  • Measure and cut bricks, blocks, and other materials to appropriate sizes using hand and power tools, ensuring precision.
  • Mix mortar and grout to the correct consistency and apply it evenly for strong and durable bonds.
  • Ensure the alignment, leveling, and plumbing of brickwork, maintaining a high standard of finish and structural integrity.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces thoroughly before commencing masonry work.
  • Perform basic scaffolding work where required, strictly adhering to all safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies on site at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with other construction workers, site supervisors, and project management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area to optimize efficiency and prevent hazards.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in bricklaying, block laying, and general masonry techniques.
  • Strong understanding of construction principles, building codes, and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools relevant to masonry (e.g., trowels, levels, brick hammers, saws, mixers).
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent physical stamina, dexterity, and hand-eye coordination for sustained manual labor.
  • Strong attention to detail, precision, and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
  • Solid understanding of site safety procedures and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training, certification, or an apprenticeship completion in Masonry or a related construction trade.
  • Experience with various types of masonry materials including natural stone, concrete blocks, and decorative bricks.
  • Knowledge of different pointing, rendering, and finishing techniques.
  • First Aid certification or relevant safety training.
  • Valid driving license for Mauritius.
