Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in comprehensive on-the-job training sessions to master bricklaying techniques.
- Assist experienced bricklayers in laying bricks, blocks, and other masonry units according to specifications.
- Prepare work areas efficiently, including mixing mortar, cleaning bricks, and setting up and dismantling scaffolding.
- Accurately cut or break bricks and blocks to exact sizes and shapes, utilizing various hand and power tools.
- Learn to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications under direct supervision.
- Maintain a consistently clean and safe work environment, strictly adhering to all company and industry safety protocols.
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Learn to use and maintain a variety of masonry-specific hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Collaborate effectively and professionally with team members, supervisors, and other trades on site.
Required Skills
- Strong work ethic and an enthusiastic eagerness to learn a skilled trade.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs regularly) and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to work reliably outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and a meticulous attention to detail.
- Reliable transportation to various job sites located throughout the Twinbrook, Rockville area.
- Basic understanding of construction site safety principles (or a strong willingness to learn and adhere immediately).
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Prior experience in a general labor, construction, or physically demanding role.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools commonly used in construction.
- OSHA 10-hour construction safety certification (or a commitment to obtain within a specified timeframe).
