Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking highly skilled and dedicated Bricklayers to join our dynamic teams working on various exciting projects across the historic city of Edinburgh, with a primary focus on the prestigious Royal Mile area. This is a unique opportunity for experienced professionals to contribute to the preservation and development of Edinburgh’s iconic architecture, working on a range of new builds, renovations, and restoration projects that demand precision and a keen eye for detail. As a vital member of our construction team, you will be responsible for laying bricks, blocks, and other building materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures. Your work will directly impact the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of our projects, ranging from residential developments to commercial properties and sensitive heritage sites. Key Responsibilities

  • Lay bricks, blocks, and other construction materials to construct and repair foundations, walls, chimneys, and other structures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine exact specifications and calculate material requirements.
  • Prepare and mix mortar according to precise specifications and apply it properly.
  • Ensure courses are level, plumb, and aligned, checking dimensions and angles with rules, squares, and levels.
  • Cut and trim bricks or blocks to size using trowel, hammer, or power tools.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including carpenters, labourers, and site managers.
  • Inspect finished structures to ensure compliance with building codes and quality standards.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Bricklayer on various construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of bricklaying techniques, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications accurately.
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety procedures on construction sites.
  • Physical strength and stamina for demanding work, including lifting heavy materials.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Bricklaying or equivalent qualification.
  • CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
  • Experience working on historic buildings or in conservation areas.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Knowledge of traditional Scottish masonry techniques.
