Key Responsibilities
- Assist skilled tradespersons (e.g., carpenters, welders, laborers) with bridge repair, maintenance, and construction tasks.
- Perform routine cleaning, sweeping, debris removal, and vegetation control around bridge structures.
- Prepare surfaces for painting, sealing, or other protective treatments.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently, including drills, grinders, pressure washers, and cutting tools.
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment at job sites.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding, barricades, and other safety equipment as required.
- Participate in bridge inspections by observing and reporting potential defects or hazards.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, policies, and procedures, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Perform general labouring duties as directed to support maintenance operations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and properly store tools and equipment.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety protocols.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction, general labour, or maintenance roles.
- Experience working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., First Aid, WHMIS, Fall Protection).
