Key Responsibilities

  • Assist skilled tradespersons and maintenance crews with various tasks related to bridge inspection, repair, and preventative maintenance.
  • Prepare work sites by setting up safety signage, barricades, and traffic control devices accurately as directed.
  • Perform general labour duties including cleaning bridge decks, abutments, piers, and other structural components to prepare for maintenance.
  • Assist with material handling, including loading, unloading, and safely moving tools, equipment, and construction materials.
  • Support painting, sealing, and minor concrete or steel repair activities under direct supervision.
  • Operate basic hand and power tools safely and efficiently as instructed, maintaining their proper working condition.
  • Conduct routine visual inspections for wear, damage, or deterioration on bridge components, reporting findings to supervisors promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored at the end of each shift.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant regulations, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Actively participate in ongoing training sessions, safety meetings, and drills to enhance skills and safety awareness.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various outdoor weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding and ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and a proactive approach to learning and task completion.
  • Excellent ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Unwavering commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all safety protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver's License and reliable transportation to job sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (even informal) in construction, general labour, or outdoor maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, concrete work, or metal fabrication techniques.
  • Traffic control certification (e.g., TCP) or a willingness to obtain it.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience operating basic heavy equipment (e.g., forklifts, aerial lifts) would be considered an asset.
