As a Building Security Officer, you will be the first line of defense, responsible for implementing security protocols, responding to incidents, and ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities within a designated facility. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of designated premises, both interior and exterior, to prevent and detect signs of intrusion, damage, or unauthorized activity.
  • Monitor surveillance equipment, including CCTV cameras and alarms, responding promptly to any suspicious activity or alarm activations.
  • Control access to the building, verifying identification, issuing visitor passes, and maintaining accurate logs of all persons entering and exiting.
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical incidents, fires, and security breaches, by following established protocols and liaising with emergency services.
  • Complete detailed incident reports and daily activity logs, documenting observations, unusual occurrences, and actions taken.
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors, tenants, and staff, offering assistance and directions as needed while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant environment.
  • Maintain a visible presence to deter criminal activity and ensure a secure atmosphere.
  • Assist with building lock-up and unlock procedures at designated times.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Alberta Security Services License.
  • Excellent observational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Basic computer proficiency for report writing and system monitoring.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the job site.
  • Availability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role.
  • Knowledge of basic security procedures and protocols.
