Job Description

As a Bus Conductor at KBS, you will serve as a primary point of contact and the welcoming face of our service, directly interacting with our diverse passenger base, efficiently managing fare collection, and ensuring the orderly and safe flow of passengers both on and off our vehicles. Your core responsibilities will encompass accurately issuing both physical and electronic tickets, meticulously handling cash and increasingly common cashless payments, and diligently reconciling daily transactions to maintain financial integrity.

Key Responsibilities
- Collect fares accurately from passengers, ensuring correct change is provided and receipts/tickets are issued.
- Issue physical and electronic tickets promptly and correctly for all passengers according to company policy.
- Assist passengers with boarding and alighting, ensuring their safety and comfort, especially for those with special needs.
- Provide clear and helpful information regarding routes, stops, tariffs, and general inquiries in a courteous manner.
- Maintain order and discipline within the bus, ensuring a pleasant and respectful travel environment for everyone.
- Manage and reconcile daily cash takings and ticket stock, meticulously documenting and reporting any discrepancies.
- Adhere strictly to company policies, traffic regulations, and paramount safety standards at all times.
- Report any operational issues, passenger complaints, or incidents promptly and accurately to the relevant authorities.
- Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with the bus driver to ensure smooth journey execution and adherence to schedules.
- Ensure the bus interior remains clean, tidy, and presentable throughout the shifts to enhance passenger experience.
Required Skills
- Excellent numerical and cash-handling skills, with proven accuracy in transactions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, proficient in English and Kiswahili).
- High level of integrity, honesty, and accountability in managing company assets and passenger funds.
- Ability to work effectively and maintain composure in a fast-paced, dynamic urban environment.
- Customer service orientation with a polite, empathetic, and helpful demeanor.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping and fare calculation.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods during shifts and assist passengers as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent academic qualification.
- Previous experience (at least 6 months) in a cash handling, customer service, or public transport role.
- Familiarity with Nairobi's major routes, bus stops, and the general public transport network.
- Ability to handle minor conflicts, challenging passenger interactions, and stressful situations calmly and professionally.
- First Aid training or certification is an added advantage.
