Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and professional Bus Drivers to navigate passenger routes and ensure strict timetable adherence across the Harrogate and Leeds areas. As a Bus Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of public transport vehicles, transporting passengers along designated routes and maintaining schedule integrity. Your day will involve performing pre-service vehicle checks, issuing tickets, handling passenger enquiries, and ensuring a comfortable and secure journey for everyone on board. You’ll be a visible and trusted member of the community, often the first and last point of contact for daily commuters, school children, and visitors. Key Responsibilities
- Operate public service vehicles safely and efficiently along scheduled routes.
- Adhere strictly to published timetables, ensuring punctuality and reliability for passengers.
- Conduct pre-service and post-service vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and report any defects promptly.
- Provide excellent customer service, assisting passengers with enquiries, directions, and ensuring a comfortable journey.
- Process ticket sales and validate passes accurately, handling cash and electronic payments.
- Maintain a clean and tidy vehicle interior, ensuring a pleasant environment for passengers.
- Comply with all traffic laws, company policies, and health and safety regulations.
- Manage passenger behaviour, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all.
- Communicate effectively with depot staff, control centre, and other team members regarding route status, delays, or incidents.
- Handle emergency situations calmly and professionally, following established protocols.
- Uphold the company's reputation through professional conduct and appearance.
Required Skills
- Valid UK PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) driving licence (Category D or D1)
- Valid Driver Qualification Card (DQC) / CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
- Excellent driving record with no major endorsements
- Strong understanding of road safety regulations and highway code
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Geographical knowledge of Harrogate and Leeds routes or ability to quickly learn new routes
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Ability to handle cash transactions accurately
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a bus driver in a public transport setting
- Familiarity with ticket machine operation and electronic payment systems
- First Aid certification
- Experience in dealing with diverse passenger needs, including those with disabilities
