Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a bus along designated routes and timetables, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers, including those with special needs, providing a welcoming environment.
- Conduct thorough pre-service vehicle checks and report any mechanical defects or issues promptly.
- Issue tickets, handle fares, and manage cash transactions accurately, providing correct change.
- Provide clear, helpful, and courteous information to passengers regarding routes, destinations, tariffs, and schedules.
- Manage passenger queries, complaints, and challenging situations professionally and effectively.
- Maintain accurate records, including mileage, fuel consumption, and incident reports as required.
- Adhere strictly to scheduled arrival and departure times, striving for punctuality and minimizing delays.
- Assist passengers with special needs, including wheelchair users, ensuring accessibility requirements are met.
- Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the bus interior throughout the shift.
Required Skills
- Valid UK PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) driving license (Category D or D1)
- Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
- Proven experience driving large vehicles, preferably buses, in a professional capacity
- Excellent knowledge of road safety regulations and the Highway Code
- Strong geographical knowledge of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
- Punctual, reliable, and possessing a strong work ethic
- Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and efficiently
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a bus driver for a public transport operator
- First Aid certification
