Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate a public service vehicle along designated routes in Bournbrook and wider Birmingham.
- Adhere strictly to all road traffic regulations, company policies, and health and safety procedures.
- Provide exceptional customer service, assisting passengers with enquiries, directions, and ensuring a pleasant journey for all.
- Handle passenger fares and tickets accurately, including operating electronic ticketing systems.
- Conduct pre-service vehicle checks, reporting any defects or issues promptly and accurately.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and presentation to high standards.
- Manage passenger boarding and alighting processes, ensuring accessibility for all passengers, including those with disabilities or pushchairs.
- Communicate effectively with depot staff, control centre, and other team members regarding route conditions, delays, or incidents.
- Respond calmly and professionally to emergency situations or challenging passenger interactions.
- Maintain accurate journey records and complete all required paperwork.
Required Skills
- Full UK driving licence with Category D entitlement
- Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification
- Proven experience as a professional bus or coach driver (minimum 12 months)
- Excellent knowledge of road safety regulations and driving laws
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good geographical knowledge of Birmingham and surrounding areas
- Ability to handle cash and operate ticketing systems accurately
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong sense of responsibility
- Clear communication skills, both verbal and written
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving articulated or double-decker buses
- Familiarity with telematics and on-board safety systems
- First Aid certification
- Local knowledge of Bournbrook specific routes
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
