Job Description

TelOne is seeking a dynamic Cable Installation Technician to join our team in Redcliff, Midlands Province. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of copper and fibre optic cable systems, ensuring our customers receive uninterrupted, high-quality services. Key Responsibilities
- Install, connect, test, and troubleshoot various types of telecommunications cables, including copper and fibre optic.
- Perform new service installations, upgrades, disconnections, and relocations for residential and business customers.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to cable service outages, poor signal quality, and equipment malfunctions.
- Conduct site surveys to determine the best cable routing and installation methods.
- Terminate and splice cables, install network equipment such as modems, routers, and set-top boxes.
- Ensure all installations meet company quality standards and safety regulations.
- Educate customers on proper equipment usage and service features.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, service calls, and equipment used.
- Operate and maintain company vehicles and tools in a safe and responsible manner.
- Collaborate with other technicians and departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in telecommunications cable installation and maintenance (copper and fibre).
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure and cabling standards.
- Proficiency in using testing equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and multimeters.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Valid Class 4 driver's license.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Certificate or Diploma in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Fibre Optic Technician (FOT) certification.
- Experience with various types of broadband technologies (ADSL, VDSL, GPON).
- Knowledge of TelOne's specific network infrastructure and services.
- Prior experience working in a customer-facing field service role.
