Job Description

Associação de Jovens para o Desenvolvimento (AJD) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Camp Counselor Helper to join our team for our upcoming youth camps in Matola Sede. This full-time role is crucial in ensuring our campers have a safe, fun, and enriching experience that fosters personal growth and memorable moments. As a Camp Counselor Helper, you will work closely with lead counselors and camp staff to create an inclusive and vibrant atmosphere where every child feels valued and engaged. Your day will be filled with exciting activities, from leading games and sports to assisting with arts and crafts, storytelling, and outdoor adventures. You’ll be a mentor, a guide, and a friend, helping campers develop new skills, build friendships, and overcome challenges in a supportive setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead camp counselors in supervising groups of children and adolescents during daily activities.
  • Actively participate in and facilitate various camp programs, including sports, arts and crafts, educational workshops, and outdoor games.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers at all times, adhering to all camp policies and procedures.
  • Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment where all campers feel respected and engaged.
  • Support the setup, cleanup, and organization of camp facilities and materials.
  • Provide first aid assistance for minor injuries and seek senior staff for serious concerns.
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating integrity, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
  • Communicate effectively with campers, fellow staff members, and parents/guardians when necessary.
  • Assist with meal times and ensure proper hygiene practices are followed.

  • Ability to manage group dynamics and maintain order in a fun setting
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and safety procedures (certification is a plus)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or youth in a camp, school, or recreational setting
  • Training or certification in youth leadership, child development, or recreational activities
  • Fluency in both Portuguese and English (desirable, but Portuguese is essential)
  • Experience in specific camp activities such as sports coaching, art instruction, or outdoor education
