As a Carpenter Assistant, you will play a crucial supporting role in various stages of construction, from preparing work sites to assisting with framing, finishing, and installing various building components. You will work closely with our journeyman carpenters, learning best practices, safety protocols, and the intricacies of the trade directly from the field. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist journeyman carpenters with a variety of tasks, including measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling wood, laminate, and other materials.
  • Prepare work sites by cleaning, organizing tools and materials, and setting up safety equipment.
  • Help in the installation of structures and fixtures such as windows, doors, stairs, molding, and cabinetry.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools under supervision, adhering to all safety guidelines.
  • Load and unload construction materials, ensuring they are stored correctly and accessible.
  • Perform basic demolition tasks and site clean-up.
  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
  • Follow instructions from lead carpenters and site supervisors diligently.
  • Actively participate in training sessions and seek opportunities for skill development.

Required Skills

  • Strong willingness to learn and develop new skills in carpentry.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of construction site safety.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable transportation to various job sites across Calgary.
  • Previous experience in a construction or manual labor role is an asset but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • WHMIS certification.
