Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Carpenter to join our dedicated team at Helderberg Construction. As a crucial member of our project execution team, you will be responsible for a wide range of carpentry tasks essential to bringing our residential and commercial building projects to successful completion. This role demands a high level of precision, an unwavering commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a larger construction crew. You will be instrumental in laying out, measuring, cutting, and assembling various wooden structures, from foundational framing to intricate finish carpentry, ensuring that all work meets our rigorous quality standards and adheres strictly to project specifications and local building codes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundational understanding of carpentry principles, be adept at interpreting complex blueprints and technical drawings, and demonstrate proficiency with a comprehensive array of hand and power tools. Your workday will involve everything from cutting and shaping timber for framing, installing floor joists, crafting roof trusses, to fitting doors, windows, and carrying out detailed finishing work such as skirting boards, architraves, and built-in units. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, fiberglass, drywall, and other materials according to specifications and blueprints.
- Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools.
- Install foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs.
- Assemble and fasten materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood fasteners.
- Inspect and repair building frameworks and other structures.
- Work safely and efficiently on construction sites, adhering strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including project managers, architects, and other tradespeople, to ensure project completion on time and within budget.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and cared for.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
- Estimate material and labour costs and prepare detailed reports.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a carpenter on building projects.
- Proficiency in using a variety of carpentry tools, equipment, and machinery (hand tools, power tools, measuring devices).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches accurately.
- Strong understanding of carpentry techniques and methods, including installation and construction.
- Excellent knowledge of safety standards and procedures on construction sites.
- Physical strength, stamina, and manual dexterity.
- Attention to detail and precision in all work tasks.
- Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship program or trade school certification.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transport to various project sites.
