Job Description
Sotragest Ltée is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Carpenter with a robust background in both furniture fabrication and general construction to join our dynamic team in Petite Rivière, Black River District. This pivotal role requires a versatile craftsman who can seamlessly transition between detailed workshop tasks, such as creating bespoke furniture pieces, and larger-scale construction projects, including framing, roofing, and finishing work. As a Carpenter with Sotragest, you will be instrumental in bringing architectural designs and client visions to life, working with a variety of materials and tools to produce high-quality, durable, and aesthetically pleasing results. We are looking for an individual who possesses exceptional attention to detail, a strong understanding of carpentry principles, and an unwavering commitment to safety and quality standards. You will be expected to interpret blueprints, measure and cut materials precisely, assemble structures, and install fixtures with accuracy and finesse. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and materials required.
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood, laminates, and other materials according to specifications for both furniture and construction projects.
- Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, such as foundations, frames, rafters, partitions, and stairways.
- Fabricate and install custom cabinets, shelving units, doors, windows, and various furniture pieces.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently, including saws, drills, sanders, and planers.
- Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures.
- Ensure all work adheres to building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with other construction professionals, including architects, engineers, and other tradesmen.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
- Estimate material and labor costs for projects as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Carpenter with a strong portfolio in both furniture and construction.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
- Expertise in operating various carpentry tools and equipment, both hand and power.
- Strong understanding of carpentry techniques, construction methods, and material properties.
- Excellent precision, mathematical skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to changing project requirements.
- Commitment to workplace safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or apprenticeship in carpentry.
- Certification from a recognized carpentry program.
